Together We Grow – Bimo Wirafajar’s GS 250X, Juggernaut. Part 2

In IAmWhatIRide, lifestyle

We meet again, Striders.. Well, after reading the first part, It’s time for me to go on about Bimo, and of course, his partner for 9 years: The Juggernaut‘s journey. Where were we before? Oh, the morning run.

As Bandung local riders, many of us fill our Sunday morning activity list with riding uphill through Lembang to Ciater. After bearing distresses from Monday to Friday -or even Saturday-, perhaps nothing heals us more than facing the morning breezes, carving the curves, stretching the numb nerves from the weekdays, and for sure, listening to the symphony of engine revs and the winds beating the leaves. “Suburban Ballads“, as how my friend refer to those sensation.

Jumpa lagi Striders.. Well, setelah baca part 1, saatnya melanjutkan kisah soal bagaimana perjalanan Bimo sebagai seorang pengendara dan tentu saja soal partnernya selama 9 tahun : The Juggernaut. Sampai mana kita bahas terakhir? Ah iya, morning run.

‘Suburban Ballads’, teman saya menyebutnya.

To dance alone with our 2 wheeled partner on the mountain roads is indeed a priceless experience. It’s likely an absolute drive for most of us. But you know, to ride totally alone on the favorite route near our city is likely impossible.

Since a good rider never lack of riding friends. When we ride on a cozy rhythm, it will charm another rider to play along. Just like some guitarists that coincidentally met on a music store and all of a sudden, Jam Session!

No wonder if we have new friends in the end of the day. Afterall, after a good ride on the hill, we always need some friends to talk about bikes while having a cup of hot coffee and roasted corn, right?

Jangan heran kalau kadang kita pulang dengan teman baru. Lagipula, setelah puas berkendara, kita selalu butuh teman ngobrol soal motor sambil menikmati segelas kopi panas dan jagung bakar. Bukan begitu?

Enough with morning run talk. Bet your eyes pretty refreshed with our Kirin movie-alike pictures. I swear we didn’t take it at Japan. And instead of a Japanese, Bimo is a Javanese.

Before having the Graha Ciater kiosk Wes Cooley replica livery, Juggie were dull stock like any Suzuki Thunder out there. With 18 inch front wheel, and the blue-silver-green eyesore striping. Not visually better in compare to my mother’s old sleeping gown.

Lagipula, instead a Japanese, Bimo is a Javanese.

I’m not sure there’s any of teenagers out there interested with the appearance. It’s nothing like a youngster would choose. “A middle-aged man’s bike” even Bimo said it so. His only reason why he picked A Thunder 250 was because it has the biggest cc’s around others that time. Imported bike excluded.

Now say that Bimo was lucky to have a giving parents. In the other hand, when another teens got the chance to happy-go-lucky with their cost-friendly cubs or scooters, Bimo had given the chance to taste the sweat when some white smoke coming from the exhaust or hearing a rattle coming from his chains. Which usuall followed by the religious phrase: “Oh, God..” when he saw the parts price list. Now that is how his parents taught him an important lesson: That every choice came with their risks. This made him always remembered that every time he had the wonderful feeling of twisting the throttle, soon his pocket will having a diet.

It’s nothing like a youngster would choose. “Motor om-om” bahkan Bimo pun menyebutnya begitu. Maka satu-satunya alasan pilihannya jatuh ke Thunder 250 adalah: it was the biggest capacity avalaible that time. Selain motor dagangan importir umum tentu saja.

A little story behind the name…

“Juggie, that’s how I called it. Why? Because the X-MEN’s enemy came first to my mind when I got it. He’s Huge, rigorous, and nothing can block him up. Just like how I saw the bike” young Bimo said. I didn’t say that Bimo is no longer young today. Okay, beside on how his belly emerge maybe. At least it matches the bike, right? Middle-aged man’s bike?

How was the teenager maintain a Thunder 250 which come with the not-so-cheap spare parts? Well, let me tell you that our young buddy, is not an ordinary kid, he obeyed his parents, diligently saved his cash, and love to hunt on online shops. When his eagle eyes saw good gears on sale for cheap, he locked it down, bought it, wear it for awhile and sell it again! And that is how he created the balance.

Dan sejarah dibalik namanya…

“Juggie, begitu saya biasa menyebutnya.

The other things that differed him with another kid on his age was he grew up with motorcycle enthusiasts around. He get along with his elder brother, Bayu and his friends. He’s a lucky boy, when I was his age, I don’t even understand the correlation of tire types and handling.

“I learned from my brother whom riding a motorcycle earlier. His riding style affects me the most on my earlier days. He’s a frenzy hazard. Probably the most menacing rider I’ve ever know. So why did I choose him as a role model? Living at a same house let me know how he really loved his motorcycle. He rides his bike daily, and always washed it after, even if he got home late at night.

“I knew how he always maintain his FXR on the top condition, how he rarely let me borrow his motorcycle no matter how hard I beg. I knew whomever (girls) sat on his rear seat..Ooops. Okay, enough about him”

Bimo shut his mouth. It’s fine though. I’d feel sorry to the lonely striders too.

Lalu kenapa saya contoh?

Okay, enough about him.”

Bimo menutup bibirnya.

With a frenzy character as a role model, no wonder if Bimo’s riding capability is ahead of his school buddies. Not to mention about the reckless behaviors. Just like any boys whose grow into moto-enthusiasts, speed is a charm and also an addiction. Just like the rest of us, young Bimo is a speedfreak. As Superman Is Dead said in their song, he is us : Young, Different and Dangerous.

However, it was a phase in life, right? As our knowledge, experience and age increased, our slap-bang level displaced by many things especially by the fear of death and bills.

Still with Juggie, Bimo moved through the next phase…

…on the next post.

Not to mention bagian ugal-ugalannya. Just like the rest of us, Bimo muda seorang speedfreak.

Masih bersama Juggie, Bimo lalui fase selanjutnya…

…di post berikutnya.
