Memories Under Metals, Axietruz Garage

In Uncategorized

I always remembered how I met Sandi Axietruz, I was cruising down the Dago street with a Street Tracker Yamaha Scorpio that belong to Dodow, my friend. At the time, it wasn’t much of customized small cubications bikes around. Perhaps that was 2004 or 2005? Since the thing I rode was one of a kind, when I passed Sandi and his friends, Mpur and Kikis (Is it Franky also there?), they chased me down right away. I didn’t realized it at first, but when I stopped near an intersection where my buddies hang out, about 2 second I dropped the kickstand I heared someone said: “Dude, it’s a cool bike”. It was Sandi whose curious about the thing I ride. Feeling confused and awkward, I answered “Really? I’d let you meet the owner for better”. And the memory was never gone. What I didn’t think of that time was, Sandi and his Streetdemon buddies will become a great part of our Kustom Kulture today.

How about today? Not too different, apart from so many things about custom bike scene I learned from him, Sandi is just like I always remembered. He always told me “Well, this is how I am, tacky. Hahaha”. At the morning I visited his garage which also his home, Sandi always seems to be more collected. When he’s out from home, he’s more cheerful and.. yeah, tacky.

Perhaps beside as a slaughterhouse and research lab, this place is really a home for him. You know, a place where you belong, where you can let every side of you goes free. As I saw it, there’s too many memorabilia here, it let me hear the things which unveiled to them who just meeting Sandi through his work. Or his tackiness. Again.

You know, a place where you belong, a place where you can just let every side of you goes free. Lagi.

The blue one behind Sandi is Bagong Begang the attention stealer on BBQ Ride 2014, yeah I didn’t got the chance to shoot it back then. The vintage enduro Megapro beside is the one his father’s ride to their farm on weekend. And the Vespa is the story marker why Sandi existed now. The one his dad rode when he met Sandi’s mom.

Now you know how Sandi get into motorcycle world. How about yours? can you still remember? I wouldn’t stay too long with this, let’s get into the bikes.

Sekarang kalian tahu dari mana awal Sandi menyentuh dunia motor, pikirkan bagaimana cerita kalian masing-masing dimulai, masih terlacak kah memori itu? Saya ga mau lama-lama bahas ini, sekarang kita cerita sedikit soal motor-motor di garasi Sandi.

daddy's-supertrapp

This one belong to Sandi’s departed father. This thing is the reason of the spreading local muffler with similar model around Bandung. Not many know Supertrapp here before, beside that its rarity, another cliche: expensive. Perhaps this is how our custom culture begun, as in our local term said “kereaktif or kerehore” (a pun of the word “creative”, means poor but actively trying. Kerehore means poor but happily keep going). Same thing: we’re cheapbastards, matey. And to think about today’s local custom scene? Sure it grows rapid.

Yeah. Pesat.

loud-expression-of-sandi

When he said he’s tacky, I interpret it as a multiple-meaning term: He’s an expressive guy, and his artwork screams all things inside his mind. Be it his viewpoint of the spreading issues around..
*cutting board. sigh.

It happened in Bandung that non-stock exhaust are banned lately. Sandi said his disagreed loudly on Bagong Begang’s tank. Non-stock exhaust? What would happened with old bike owners with no more stock parts around? Should they follow Sandi’s way? With installing another bike’s stock exhaust, from a 2 strokes 50cc scooter for example?

CUTTING BOARD!! F***!! I can’t take my eyes off that license number holder that should belong in the kitchen!
enough.

Cukup.

axietruz-luv-mom

Where were we? Ah, his viewpoint of issues that spreading around. Or probably something more deep inside: His devotion of his closest persons, as written on the tank.

shift-knob-psycubdelic

Or maybe a glimpse of his childhood? If you’re in the same ages like me and Sandi, meeting this Shift Knob, like the one he attached on Psycubdelic only means we were on the way out of the city in a minivan (public transport). It usually belong to Mitsubishi L300 or Toyota Hiace. And usually we sat in front, on our parent’s lap.

Mungkin sedikit memori masa kecil?

As far as I know, Sandi is never letting his childhood away from his life. I agreed, what does it mean to grow up if we lost our playful side to this crazy world? Moreover..

“Life is a game, you live so you play. Follow your dreams and win what your happy heart desires.”

Saya setuju, apa artinya tumbuh dewasa jika sisi playful kita hilang dimakan kejamnya dunia? Lagipula..

Here Sandi and I lounging, as normal as paying your buddy a visit at his home. What’s not so normal perhaps, his table display. From all of my experience of visiting people’s house, not many of them display a dirtcub frame on the table.

the-radio-clock on axietruz garage shootupnride.com

I don’t know about how Sandi did his working process, and I’m too afraid to ask. In the context of art, most of the time, the process is a privacy. But I can imagine from the ‘surgical table’ with that little radio on it. When a surgery happened, he’s likely lost his sense of time unless the radio announcer tells.

tut-psycubdelic

It seems I told too many about Sandi, since actually I just come to pay a visit (err, lets say we’re on the same neigborhood). And as casual as it may be, I brought my girl also. So, just in case I left you curious, just throw any question here, I will gladly passed it to him. I bet you guys realized that this is the first time we bring the custom bike theme on SNR. It’s just a glance, and sure we’ll dig more ahead. Feel free to shred some words!

Feel free to shred some words!
